Subgroups of direct products of limit groups
If Γ1, . . . ,Γn are limit groups and S ⊂ Γ1 × · · · × Γn is of type FPn(Q) then S contains a subgroup of finite index that is itself a direct product of at most n limit groups. This answers a question of Sela.
متن کاملUncountable groups have many nonconjugate subgroups
We prove that any uncountable group G of power ~, has at least 2 subgroups not conjugate in pairs. The paper is very self-contained, assuming no knowledge except cardinal arithmetic (and the definition of an (abelian) group).
متن کاملAbelian groups have/are near Frattini subgroups
The notions of nearly-maximal and near Frattini subgroups considered by J.B. Riles in [20] and the natural related notions are characterized for abelian groups.
متن کاملDo Normal Subgroups Have Straight Tails?
1. INTRODUCTION. In this article we show that group representations permit simple, visual explanations of semidirect products and related concepts. Along the way, we prove an extension of Cayley's theorem, define blocks and tails for the resulting representations, and investigate the title question: Do normal subgroups have straight tails? We consider representations of finite groups over the f...
متن کاملHumans do not have direct access to retinal
Perceived visual speed has been reported to be reduced during walking. This reduction has been attributed to a partial subtraction of walking speed from visual speed (F. H. Durgin & K. Gigone, 2007; F. H. Durgin, K. Gigone, & R. Scott, 2005). We tested whether observers still have access to the retinal flow before subtraction takes place. Observers performed a 2IFC visual speed discrimination t...
